Karl and Carrisa . . . Super fun ENGAGEMENT SESSION

It was a great morning here at Drish Photography!  Amanda is home on spring break from Coe College and I was blessed with having her pick up a camera to help with Karl and Carissa's engagement session.  For those of you who do not know about us Amanda has been assisting me with weddings since she was 8 years old.  She became the second shooter when she was about 14 and at that time we were still using film.  I remember getting the prints back from the lab and being so surprised with the images that she created.  Now that we are digital I do not have to wait for the film to be processed but can sit down after a session to view our days work.  I am amazed not only with her creativity but also with the ease of working beside her.  We have a sixth sense and the best way for me to describe it . . . we work like an orchestra without a director.

This morning Karl and Carissa drove from Iowa City to have their engagement pictures taken. Amanda and I had so much fun watching the  them trek through the wet snow, play on the swing and simply laughing together.   We are very excited for their June wedding and once again experiencing "the photo walk" in downtown Iowa City.

Karl and Carissa work together at Twin Image Salon Spa in Iowa City and as Carissa says in her cute sort of way...."he is my boss".  Karl is the third generation of Twin Images!

Karl and Carissa...JOY!!!

Another great day in Washington

I can end my day again by saying...."wow, what a great day" and "that was soooo much fun". If you ever wonder why I love my work just take a look at the pictures of Lucy. Now these are not your normal senior pictures but they do show how much fun we have. I will post portraits later but for now I simply wanted to share our day!

It was so HOT but I really can not complain because it didn't rain. 86 degrees the last I checked. Lucy handled the heat well but I believe that is because of her athletic training. It was quite cute when it was 86 degrees and Lucy was putting on a wool winter coat with a fur collar. Oh my goodness she was a trooper and so willing to do......

Conrad says....."tell everyone hi for me"

Back to Lucy.... We had a great start this morning bopping around our beautiful town of Washington as the temps climbed. Lucy's mother was great in helping with the little details that I sometimes do not see.

Moms you have been awesome and very helpful!

I want to thank the people of Washington for working so hard to make our city beautiful. The new sidewalks, street lamps and black benches are wonderful. I use the environment so much I feel like I need to pay rent or something. I also want to thank Tim Widmer for his patience this morning. He was dragging a tree through the Kewash underpass as I was working with Lucy and he stopped and waited until we were done. This isn't the first time I interrupted Tim or one of his employees.

To end....what a great day and boy did I have fun!

Hello world!

It has been several weeks since I posted a message, story or pictures. Senior Picture season is here and I have had so much fun being out and about. I wish I could simply take pictures day in and day out and totally forget about all the computer time that goes with it. I enjoy capturing their personalities and trying to create something unique for each one and I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS get carried away thus there are many pictures to sort and edit! Oh well...I do love it!

The weather has been very challenging as we try to dodge rain drops or thunderstorms. When it is not raining we have to drench ourselves in bug spray and work in humid conditions that cause the "frizzies".

This morning was Lucy's senior session and we started at 8:15 hoping to capture a few images before the big rain set in. We started on the gravel road with Lucy in her bright pinkish prom dress and from time to time we would feel a drop of rain. We then traveled into Washington and as we did it really started raining. We spent a bit of time at the rocket slide then decided to photograph Lucy in the rain with another prom dress! (Notice Lucy's shoes). Tomorrow Lucy, her mother and I will set out once again! I don't think it is suppose to rain but we will have humidity.

Lucy....it was fun.

Cycling and Carbondale

Cycling is one of the many things that I love most about my life.

I started my cycling career riding RAGBRAI and after seven years I felt it was time to venture on and experience other states. I met a great group of friends and we decided that our first adventure would be to ride along the coast of Nova Scotia. Since then we have ridden across New York on the Erie Canal Trail, Maine, Idaho, Indiana and this year we will ride across North Carolina on a tour called MOUNTAINS TO THE SEA. Even though I have seen many places I would have to say that my favorite cycling is on the trail from Glenwood Springs to Aspen in Colorado. It is 48 mile paved trail with spectacular scenery.

Carbondale....my family, the mountains and cycling! I love it here!

I want to thank my clients for their understanding of my travels. When I arrive home it will be back to business as usual and I am very excited to start my new SENIOR SEASON!

Colorado and family

I traveled to Colorado a few days ago for a little R&R and to visit family. Hmmm...how do I define rest and relaxation? Today was a great little hike up a "steep" mountain as Sam would say it and tomorrow will be a bike ride on the Aspen trail. I have been challenged with taking pictures because of a dead battery and thunderstorms. I'll post more in the days to come!

Salon Rage

When Walter called me and asked if I would do a session for his new Salon Rage I had no idea it would be so much fun. We met in the back alleys of Washington and to work we went...if you want to call it work! Walter, Stephanie, Ashley and Megan were the best! They have the best of laughs amongst them and I can only imagine what it would be like spending a day in their salon. If you are interested in "HAIR THAT ROCKS" give them a call @ 319 653 5661.

Senior season has begun!

I have been busy the last couple of weeks searching for new locations in SE Iowa to give Drish 2010 Seniors a new and fresh look. Yesterday (yes, it was Sunday) I ventured out with Brooklyn and we had a great time trying some of my new ideas. I enjoyed having her mother and boyfriend along and of course they had to be included in some of the pictures...creating memories! My sister, Nancy, joined me and was very helpful in handling all my STUFF that I drag along. Hope you enjoy the pictures and please post a comment to let me know what you think.
I LOVE this picture!
